Rhun ap Iorwerth
The Plaid Cymru leader on the 2026 Senedd elections and the future of Wales.

Behind the interview
I interviewed Rhun ap Iorwerth during the run-up to the 2026 Senedd election, when Plaid Cymru and Reform UK were neck and neck in the polls. Plaid went on to win decisively, ending roughly a century — 103 or 104 years — of uninterrupted Labour dominance in Wales, and Rhun became First Minister of Wales.
Across that election cycle, every candidate I interviewed won: Rhun, Zoe Garbett, who became Hackney's first Green mayor, and Liam Shrivastava, who became its second.
